Roulette can be beat using physics.
But it is a negative progression game.
So if eventually you are going to lose.
How much can you expect to win temporarily.
And how can you tell how much that is?
Is that the variance?

Yes that is right.

But it is a negative progression game.

Expectancy is the better word for your thought.
Roulette has a negative expectation value through the house edge.

So if eventually you are going to lose.

On the long run you will lose 1 part of 37 in every round in European roulette, statistically.

How much can you expect to win temporarily.

That is a very difficult question because of the ups and downs of the balance curve and the length of the session.
It depends very much on the bet volume.

And how can you tell how much that is?

I am no math teacher sorry!

Is that the variance?

average deviation

No! This is the average deviation from the trend line.
As the trend line is derived from the balance curve after the test runs, it tells nothing about the future.
It is the measure size of the variability, the up- and downturns of the balance curve.
